During Families Week, YFCC collaborated in two events in celebration of Families.

The IFSS team, in partnership with the East Devonport Child and Family Centre, held a Families Week Celebration on the 17th of May at the East Devonport Recreation Centre.
The HYP team, in partnership with the Burnie Child and Family Centre held a week’s long event.

The East Devonport event had 57 adults and children that attended, and the Burnie event had 60 families attend over the course of their event. All the children had fun playing with the many activities on offer.

YFCC were able to provide a number of activities that families were able to enjoy together such as a photo booth (in both Burnie and East Devonport), where parents and children could have photos taken. This was a very popular activity with parents and children utilising the photo booth. Other activities offered in East Devonport to the children included; a gross motor circuit, potting plants, story time and a very popular music performance of children’s songs by Dominic Peter.

There was also scrapbooking materials provided by YFCC and the East Devonport Child and Family Centre, and many of the families made some beautiful place mats using the photos from the photo booth. This was offered to the families at the Burnie event also, however the families opted to take their photos home with them.

In Burnie over 40 families used the photo booth on the Monday, and over 60 families participated in the Social Circus workshop with parents playing with their children using various mediums such as hoops, soft scarves for younger children, spinning plates, and juggling balls. Around 20 families utilised the gardening activity and this will be ongoing as adverse weather limited the activity and there are still supplies left over.

The IFSS team distributed 27 Goody bags with the Families Week and YFCC Logos printed on them. Each bag contained a children’s story book, crayons, knitted bootees, hats, note pads and fridge magnets. Each family was given a bag before leaving and many expressed that the story books given were among the children’s favourites.

A big thankyou to all the staff and volunteers that made these events so successful. It was so much fun and would not have happened without your help.
