As an organisation that offers a variety of services and programs to young people and children, we pride ourselves on making every possible effort to ensure young people and children are aware of their rights and feel safe when accessing our services.
YFCC’s ARVOS and School Holiday programs incorporate more than just fun and free recreation activities for young people – they also aim to educate and inform young people on how to keep themselves and their friends and family safe. This is done through a variety of approaches including teaching and modelling protective behaviours, creating linkages with local services and also building confidence and self-esteem. We received the following feedback from a participant in some of our programs.
“I’m 11 years old and I’ve been attending ARVOS for a year now. ARVOS has always been a safe place for me and my friends to go once a week after school and in the school holidays. Since going to ARVOS I have gained confidences within myself, I used to feel very anxious but since attending ARVOS with the support of the workers and the kind kids I feel confident going there”
