The Fit For Work (FFW) project, funded through Jobs Tasmania, works with local Job Services agencies in the Devonport region to identify young jobseekers (aged between 16 and 25 years) who need additional supports to enter the workforce. A full-time project worker works intensively with participants for 6 to 12 months to address complex health and wellbeing issues and build relationships and social connections. Participants are also provided with soft employment skills training through a series of workshops that can be delivered to small groups or to individuals. Workshops include important work readiness skills such as developing a resume, addressing selection criteria, interview skills and obtaining an L1 and L2 Drivers licence. The project aims to support participants to rebuild their health, confidence and lost social capital, so they are more likely to break the cycle of welfare dependency. The FFW caseload is capped at 25 to ensure each participant can be properly supported.
