Congratulations to our new Life Member – Shane Leonard

At the Shelter Tas AGM held on the 24 November 2023 in Hobart the Chair of Shelter Tasmania Andrea Witt welcomed two new Shelter Tas Life Members for 2023, Shane Leonard of YFCC and Stephen Hill from Launceston City Mission.

Shane Leonard

Shane has been a significant contributor to the sector for over 20 years – not only does he have operational oversight of YFCC’s shelters in both Devonport and Burnie, and now Malana in Launceston, he has also contributed to the Shelter Tas Policy Committee and Executive for many years.

Shane is always an excellent source of knowledge for all matters relating to housing and homelessness. This expertise and his extensive networks have been invaluable to many throughout the sector.

His knowledge of the travails of young people experiencing homelessness is unequalled – they often still seek him out, remembering his kindness, fairness and support. Shane always ensures they are heard and always provides a professional and caring environment for them to thrive.

His contributions are more than worthy of recognition and it is wonderful to see him receive this recognition as Shelter Tas Life Member. Shane has been a crucial member of the Shelter Tas community for many years, always being there when required, and always being a sterling advocate for the Northwest and for young people. We are very pleased to acknowledge Shane as our very first Life Member from the Northwest Region.
