The North West Driver Mentor Program (DMP) has delivered over 1350 driver mentor sessions for participants in the past 12 months.
With 139 participants officially registered in the program, and a further 240 young people completing expressions of interest for the program online, the program continues to meet a strong demand for this service in the community.
To date, 25 young people have completed their 80 compulsory driving hours with the program and passed their Provisional Driving Test. We interviewed one of these participants on gaining her driving licence.
“The program had a big impact on me. I had no one else to help me get hours up. Learning with a professional was a lot more useful than with family or friends – it provided structure and rules.
It’s crazy the amount of freedom having my licence gives me. Taking my daughter to school. Getting groceries. No need to rely on others. I have an adult life.”
The program is fully funded through West North West Working’s Partnership Program, and the Tasmanian Community Fund (TCF).
