Homelessness Week events shine a light on support for young people

YFCC will mark Homelessness Week 2026 with two community events highlighting support for young people experiencing or at risk of homelessness. 

Homelessness Week will be held from Monday 3 August to Sunday 9 August, with this year's national theme, Homelessness Action Now, calling for greater awareness, stronger support and long-term solutions. 

As part of the week, YFCC will host an Open Day at Malana Youth at Risk Centre in Launceston and a BBQ at Wurayni in Shorewell Park in Burnie. 

The Malana Open Day will be held on Tuesday 4 August from 10am to 4pm at 31 Brisbane Street, Launceston. 

The event is an opportunity for services working with young people experiencing homelessness to come together, learn more about the support available and gain a better understanding of what Malana does and why the work is important. 

Guided tours of the facility will be available during and after the event and a light lunch will be provided. 

Later in the week, YFCC will host the Wurayni BBQ on Friday 7 August from 10am to 4pm at Wurayni, 41A Mooreville Road, Shorewell Park. 

The BBQ will offer free food and a relaxed opportunity for community members to learn more about youth2independence and the support it provides. 

These events provide an opportunity to connect, learn and raise awareness of the challenges faced by young people experiencing homelessness, while also recognising the importance of safe accommodation, early support and pathways to independence.
