Staff Profile: Fiona Fischer,
Clinical Supervision and Service Improvement Officer

I am passionate about supporting people who work in the human services sector by encouraging ongoing critical reflection on practice while building self-care and resilience.  

I love that this role allows me to develop productive relationships with YFCC staff, taking a strengths-based approach that encourages and motivates people to reflect on the work they are proud of and the positive difference they make every day.  

I am a social worker with more than 30 years of experience working across child protection, family support and community services.  

My career began in Victoria, where I led the implementation of Intensive Family Support Services (Child FIRST) and managed Out of Home Care and Foster Care programs.  

In 2007, I made a major lifestyle change, moving to the Kimberley region of Western Australia to work for the Department of Communities.  

My final role was Regional Executive Director for the Kimberley, leading more than 360 staff delivering child protection, housing, disability and Indigenous engagement services across a region spanning more than 400,000 square kilometres, around six times the size of Tasmania.  

In 2024, I was honoured to receive a Public Service Medal in recognition of my commitment to leadership, reform and delivering effective community services. 

After visiting Tasmania each summer for the past three years, my partner and I decided to spend 12 months here, which means I'm experiencing my first Tasmanian winter in more than 20 years. 

When I'm not at work, I enjoy music, travelling, spending time outdoors, fishing, mountain biking and walking the dog.
