Youth, Family and Community Connections’ Crisis Accommodation Support Services (CASS) provides 24/7 crisis accommodation and intensive support for young people aged 13–20 years who are homeless or at significant risk of homelessness on the North West Coast of Tasmania.

Operating from Burnie and Devonport, CASS delivers safe, secure and supported emergency accommodation alongside a holistic, client-focused case management approach. The service works toward two primary outcomes: reunification with family or extended family where safe and appropriate, or support to secure independent, sustainable accommodation when reunification is not possible. Case management prioritises accommodation while also addressing key life areas to support stability and sustainable outcomes on exit.

CASS supports young people aged 13–20 years (inclusive) and operates under a “no wrong door” approach, with no exclusionary criteria. Any young person within the age range can be assessed for suitability, ensuring timely and equitable access to support.

The service is staffed 24 hours a day, 7 days a week and is funded through the Specialist Homelessness Services (SHS) system. There is no direct cost to young people accessing the service. Where a young person is in receipt of income, a board contribution of $10 per day and a savings contribution of $50 per fortnight applies. Savings are returned to the young person on exit, subject to no outstanding board or property damage.

Referrals can be made directly by young people by phone or in person at either site. Service providers are also encouraged to contact CASS to discuss potential referrals and suitability.
