Youth Week Tasmania 2022 was held April 3rd-10th and offered the Tasmanian community a chance to acknowledge and celebrate the contributions young people make in our community. YFCC have always proudly participated in Youth Week by hosting a number of events or activities that represent young people and offer them some positive information and activities.
This year our plans were somewhat challenged by the ongoing Covid 19 pandemic, however we were still able to offer great, high-quality events. We hosted a Youth Expo event at Burnie’s Hellyer College that saw students able to engage with, and learn about, local services and programs. Stalls were hosted by organisations that offered both mental and physical health, sexual assault services, family planning, sport and recreation and employment services. Feedback from the students, Hellyer staff and stall holders was all very positive. A special thanks to the staff at Hellyer for helping us run this event.
In Devonport we partnered with Devonport City Council to host a skate, scooter and BMX competition at the Bluff skate park. The event gave young people a chance to compete for prizes and offered the broader community a chance to support young people and learn more about these sports. With support from Drop In Skate School, Wiseguise Pizza and funding from the Department of Communities, Sport and Recreation it was a great day for everyone who came along.
