CEO MESSAGE

As I write this, I am still in denial that it could possibly be December. The years go quicker, and with each there is more to do. YFCC has had another fruitful year; our Employment Services have grown substantially and are achieving outstanding outcomes for participants, and we have now completed our first year of operation in Launceston with Malana well established and providing vital support for young people who are experiencing homelessness or who are at risk of homelessness.

We are exceptionally pleased to announce we will be piloting a new, and much needed, program in 2024 – the Northwest Driver Mentor program. Funded by Burnie Works Pty Ltd and the Tasmania Community Fund, YFCC has partnered with West North West Working to deliver this Program which will operate as part of our YFCC Employment Services. The program will assist young people who lack other means to gain driving experience, to gain the compulsory 80 hours on-road driving experience for their driver’s license. The program will be delivered across the whole of the Northwest coast, West Coast and, if we can secure a suitable vehicle on island, King Island.
We had a third Board Member join our Board in November. We warmly welcome Melissa Blake. Mel has significant experience in Community Services, has served on several committees and will be an excellent addition to our Board.

In this last newsletter for 2023, I wish to express my appreciation to our highly regarded funders, partners and donors who continue to collaborate and support the work of YFCC. I would also like to express my gratitude to our incredibly talented and hard-working team and Board, all of whom are so passionate and dedicated in what they do. It is always an honour to work together with you.

Most importantly, I thank our many clients and community members who trust us to walk alongside them. “It’s simple to stay in place; true strength lies in embracing change.”
I look forward to returning again in 2024.

A happy and healthy Christmas and New Year to all.

Thank you for taking the time to read the newsletter. If you would like to contribute to our next edition, please contact us at reception@yfcc.com.au.

NORTH WEST DRIVER MENTOR PROGRAM

A partnership between YFCC and West North West Working (WNWW) has resulted in a Pilot program aimed at addressing one of the main barriers impacting young people accessing employment on the North West Coast.

The inability to obtain a driver's licence is a major barrier for young people trying to gain employment or training.

IFSS works collaboratively to provide intervention strategies tailored to families with high and complex needs. IFSS works with families where there are risk factors present for children, young people, and their families, with the aim to minimise and prevent involvement with Child Safety Services.

CHILD SAFE

YFCC has an ongoing commitment to keeping all children and young people safe. Staff are continuously identifying areas for improvement, and implementing appropriate changes through policy and procedure, to ensure that children, young people, families, and the community remain safe.
