Kinship Carer's Survey - Mission Australia

CEO MESSAGE

The last few months have been incredibly exciting for YFCC with a number of significant events.

On World Homelessness Day, the 10th of October, Minister Guy Barnett opened Malana, Youth at Risk Centre, in Launceston. This was the first opportunity we had to conduct a full walk through of the new facility. We believe it will provide a comfortable, home-like environment for our young residents and are looking forward to commencing operations in late October. There will be a full launch on the 8th of November where we will be providing an opportunity for our partners, other community services and neighbours to view the property and find out further information.

On the 12th of October we held the YFCC Inspiring Youth Awards presentations. This was an excellent opportunity to celebrate the nominees and winners of the 2022 Awards. There is nothing better than seeing the smiles on the faces of these young people and their families/carers for being recognised for the wonderful contributions they are making across NW communities.

On the 9th of October we supported St Vincent de Paul Society with an Anti-Poverty Week event in Burnie. This was a great occasion to work in cooperation with many organisations to encourage governments and communities to make sure children and families can cover the basics and have a secure roof over their heads.

At the ATDC AGM on the 29th of September I was extremely honoured to receive a Life Membership Award, recognising contributions to the Tasmanian ATOD sector and to ATDC. It really is a privilege to work in such a dynamic sector – we all do so much with so little.

Finally, on the 26th of October YFCC will be holding its AGM. We will be saying farewell to two of our outstanding Board Members, Anne Heath and Julie Smith. I thank them for their contributions. We will have new Members joining the Board of Governance. I will say more about this in our next newsletter.

Thank you for taking the time to read the newsletter. If you would like to contribute to our next edition, please contact us at reception@yfcc.com.au.

Regards,

Ros Atkinson

Mission Australia - Kinship Carers Survey

If you have the primary care of a sibling, grandchildren, niece or nephew or any other child who is an extended family member then you’re a Kinship carer!

We want to listen, and learn more about kinship families so that we can influence the way both services and government agencies work alongside kinship families.
