CEO MESSAGE

Spring is almost knocking on our door and brings with it the hope of warmer weather. We have had an exciting and very active time since our last communication – I hope you enjoy reading about some of this in our newsletter.

On the 5th August YFCC held the annual Homelessness Week luncheon. This provided a valuable opportunity for government and many services to come together to celebrate the work we do, raise awareness and discuss solutions to homelessness and housing issues. The gathering was treated to an inspiring presentation from a young person, Bell, who talked about her journey in finding safe and secure accommodation.

We are very pleased to now have a full team on board for the new Youth at Risk Centre in Launceston for 12-15 year olds. The team has a broad and relevant range of qualifications, skills and experience and are currently undergoing a thorough induction. The service is set to commence in late September.

We have also commenced a new employment service – Project Detour – and have highly capable and knowledgeable staff working within this program. Project Detour supports young job seekers, who are at risk of becoming entrenched in the criminal justice system, through one to one case management, working to identify and address barriers and issues across a spectrum of psychosocial determinants.

Finally, we are thrilled the Youth Awards are now open for nominations – please see below for further information.

Thank you for taking the time to read the newsletter. If you would like to contribute to our next edition, please contact us at reception@yfcc.com.au.

Regards,

Ros Atkinson
