From the CEO

It's a busy time of year at YFCC as we prepare our annual reports, undertake external audits, and make arrangements for our upcoming AGM. While these important governance and accountability activities keep us focused behind the scenes, two particularly exciting developments have kept smiles on our faces and renewed our passion for the work we do.

First, we are incredibly grateful to have the support of Her Excellency the Honourable Caroline Wells, Governor of Tasmania, as our Patron. We are privileged to have the support of someone who has dedicated so much of her life to serving the Tasmanian community.

Inspiring youth awards update

We are pleased to share that, with only weeks to go, we have already received more than 40 nominations for the Inspiring Youth Awards.

This year, thanks to the outstanding support of our sponsor, Hardings Group, we have seen a broader range of young people being nominated, with strong representation from communities right across the North West Coast. The quality of nominations has also been higher than ever.

Building Stronger Families Workshops

We’re pleased to continue the series of free workshops to deliver practical advice and support to parents and carers with children aged 0-17 years.

The fourth workshop in the series has the theme ‘Neurodivergent & Thriving’ with the focus on supporting participants with neurodivergent children, and will take place in Burnie on 19 October and Devonport on 29 October.

One participant said " it’s been the highlight of my month. it’s nice to be able to openly speak about what’s going on at home and know that I'm not alone".

Helping Young Families Program - Family Support Team
Located in Burnie.

What I like about my role: I enjoy the opportunity to work directly with parents and children and, hopefully, make a positive difference in their lives. I love being able to facilitate programs, build connections with families and support parents to achieve their own goals.

A bit about me: Originally a West Coast girl, I moved to Burnie for college and stayed here. My working life has been varied, spanning across office administration, book keeping, small business ownership, including a cleaning business and a surf store, community development, project work and most recently a leadership role at a Child and Family Learning Centre.
