Welcome to Spring

By Damian Collins, Team Leader - Alcohol, Tobacco & Other Drugs

It has been a busy and productive period for the team at YFCC made somewhat more enjoyable by the longer days and warmer temperatures.

This month we received some exciting news, our expression of interest submitted to Burnie City Council’s Partnership Program was successful and we have entered into a three-year partnership supporting our Burnie Arvos programs for young people and our Resilience and Recovery peer support group for clients of our Alcohol, Tobacco and Other Drugs (ATODS) Service.

A special visit from our Patron

YFCC recently had the privilege of welcoming Her Excellency the Honourable Caroline Wells, Governor of Tasmania, and Dr Walters for a special visit.

As YFCC's Patron, Her Excellency has demonstrated a genuine interest in the wellbeing of young people, families and communities across Tasmania.

The visit provided a valuable opportunity to share more about YFCC's work and the positive impact our teams are making across the communities we serve.

Spotlight on Retail and Hospitality connects jobseekers with opportunities

More than 50 jobseekers explored employment and training opportunities at the recent Spotlight on Retail and Hospitality event, held in Launceston on Wednesday 21 October.

The successful event brought together 13 exhibitors from across the retail, hospitality, employment and training sectors, giving attendees the opportunity to connect directly with employers, explore available positions and learn about pathways into employment.

Client story: Taking positive steps towards a brighter future

When 15-year-old Ethan arrived at YFCC’s Malana Youth at Risk Service, he was experiencing a range of complex challenges following a crisis at his grandmother’s home.

Ethan had been diagnosed with ADHD and Autism Spectrum Disorder and had an active NDIS plan.
He had also experienced difficulties managing his anger.

Despite the circumstances that brought him to Malana, Ethan showed a willingness to engage with support and a genuine desire to find better ways of managing the challenges he faced.

Meet the team: Kellie Ryan

For YFCC Youth Coach Kellie Ryan even the smallest moments of support can make a meaningful difference in a young person's life.

Based at Malana in Launceston, Kellie enjoys helping young people recognise their strengths, build confidence and discover new possibilities for their future.

“I like knowing that even small actions, conversations or moments of support can make a positive difference in a young person's life,” Kellie said.

She also enjoys the variety her role brings, with no two days quite the same.
