CEO MESSAGE
The last few months have been extremely exciting for YFCC. During October we held the second Inspiring Youth Awards in Burnie. It was wonderful to hear the outstanding accomplishments the nominated young people from across the NW Coast had undertaken, whether at a personal, family or community level. My congratulations goes to all – truly inspiring!

We were also thrilled to have been selected as the provider for the Youth at Risk Centre (YARC) in Launceston. We thank Minister Ferguson, the Tasmanian Government and our partners for their support with this significant achievement. We are looking forward to working with all in Launceston to deliver this new service. The Youth At Risk Centre will be a specialist homelessness service providing temporary accommodation and care, tailored to the specific needs of unaccompanied young people aged between 12 and 15 years who are experiencing homelessness, or at risk of experiencing homelessness. The YARC will provide essential accommodation services to meet the material basic needs of residents together with a range of specialised, age appropriate supports (including working with families toward reunification where it is safe to do so). Strong Families, Safe Kids Advice and Referral Line (ARL) will be the principal referral point to the YARC. The facility will cater for 8 residents, including two rooms for young people with a disability if required. A building in central Launceston is being converted into the facility. The facility and service are expected to come online in the second half of 2022.

Together with our partners, we are also pleased to be commencing two new youth employment services based in Burnie – Youth Pathways and Youth Navigators. Please keep reading to find out more about these services.

What do you like about your role?
|
I have now been in my role for 2 weeks. I have enjoyed meeting other staff members at YFCC and am very appreciative that everyone has made me feel very welcome.

On Wednesday the 6th of October, YFCC was proud to host our Inspiring Youth Awards for 2021. For the second year in a row, the Inspiring Youth Awards once again highlighted the many and ongoing contributions that young people make to the North-West Tasmanian Community and provided an opportunity for recognition and reward.

An important part of the work YFCC’s drug and alcohol team undertake is Health Promotion, including a focus on prevention and education around drug and alcohol misuse. The Health Promotion team is responsible for delivering a range of workshops and programs to young people right across North West Tasmania.
|

As an organisation that offers a variety of services and programs to young people and children, we pride ourselves on making every possible effort to ensure young people and children are aware of their rights and feel safe when accessing our services.

Working It Out (WIO), Tasmania’s gender, sexuality and intersex status support and education service has welcomed its new North-West based staff member, Garry Wakefield.

Our day program runs on a Tuesday and Thursday from the Salvation Army Ulverstone Corp 10.30am-12.30pm. Transport provided from Burnie and Devonport.
