CEO MESSAGE
YFCC held its AGM on the 28th October. Jess Deans, our consumer representative, retired at the meeting, having been a highly active board member for 6 years. Jess joined the Board at just 20 years of age. She undertook governance training at an early stage and contributed effectively to all areas of governance – even learning to understand comprehensive financial reports! We will miss you Jess. At the AGM we were fortunate to gain a new member, Dr Anne Heath, who is a teaching fellow and campus coordinator with UTAS (Cradle Coast) and has extensive experience in community services, human resources and quality improvement. Chris Young also re-joined the Board after a short break. Chris has a background in law and community legal services.

The Organisation has also produced its 2019-2020 Annual Report. Again, this year, we are very pleased with the outcomes we have achieved, with 88% of our clients showing an improvement after intervention. 97% of our health promotion and education participants reported increased skills and knowledge. This is a significant achievement against a backdrop of COVID-19 and increasing complexity. You can read the report here.
|
We are also pleased to have recruited 4 peer trainees as part of the Peer Project, a partnership with the Drug Education Network (DEN), the Salvation Army and Holyoake. Our peer trainees will undergo significant peer training and work placement to become invaluable support for our alcohol, tobacco and other drug services and the broader sector.
|
During September, Lyn Buckley also commenced in the position of Special Projects Team Leader. Lyn has extensive experience in project management and human resources management and is a welcome addition to our team.
|
Finally, in November we will be celebrating a significant milestone - our 40th Anniversary. Having started from a small, volunteer run organisation providing crisis accommodation services to young women in Ulverstone, it is truly wonderful to be part of the journey that has led to where the Organisation is today – still very much representing the communities we work with.

I have been working with YFCC for nearly one month working out of Head office as the Special Projects Team Leader, which includes Emergency Relief, Community Voices and Fit for Work at this point in time.
|
I like the people in the team and all the staff seem very helpful.

On Thursday October 8th YFCC was proud to host the inaugural Inspiring Youth Awards. The awards highlighted the many and ongoing contributions young people make to the North West Tasmanian community and provided an opportunity for recognition and reward. We had young people from right across the North West Coast nominated and we had over 80 community members come to the awards to help us celebrate (in a socially distanced fashion).

Part of YFCC’s Alcohol, Tobacco and Other Drug (ATOD) team is our Health Promotion team. While there are only two team members, the amount of work they do right across North West Coast is substantial
