CEO MESSAGE

A belated happy New Year to you all. I hope 2020 brings positive directions.

It’s terrific to report that our new Fit for Work program, funded with the support of the Tasmanian Community Fund, has commenced with all guns blazing. Whilst it is still early days, the project has been well received by referral agencies, and, as at the beginning of February, 12 participants are already registered and engaged.

Our first team training day has already taken place this year with all staff undertaking Child Safe training, provided by Child Wise, and learning more about Advantage Thinking from our good friends at Colony 47.

We’ve also been exceptionally fortunate to receive donations from the Commonwealth Bank of Australia (Burnie branch), XPS Pension Group (UK) and SpecSavers. We truly appreciate this kind-heartedness, as all donations received enhance the support we are able to provide our clients.

Thank you for taking the time to read the newsletter. If you would like to contribute in our next edition, please contact us on reception@yfcc.com.au
Regards,

Ros Atkinson

NEW TEAM MEMBER - GEORGIA RICHARDS

I have been in the Devonport Health Promotions role for nearly a month now. I love the idea of being able to work with teenagers whilst educating them on really important topics. I also like that I am in a role where I am able to learn so much as I go.

NEW TEAM MEMBER - KIM GAWNE

I have just started as a Crisis Accommodation Youth Worker in both Burnie and Devonport.

I really enjoy being a Youth Worker. It is satisfying to see young people move forward and make positive life choices. My role at CASS compliments my 'day job' at Hellyer College where I support young people with all aspects of their health and well-being.

INSPIRING YOUTH AWARDS 2020 Celebrating young people’s contributions on Tasmania’s NW Coast

This year as YFCC continues to work hard to support young North West Tasmanians we are launching a new event that will celebrate their contributions to our community.

The Inspiring Youth Awards aim to highlight the positive, everyday actions that so many of our young people undertake, but often don’t get recognition for or even noticed.

ATDC Conference May 2020

This event occurs every two years and is across two days 25-26 May in Hobart. It is the only time where we manage to get people from all corners of Tasmania, across government and community sectors, as well as representatives from other related sectors in the same venue at the same time all talking about alcohol and other drugs.
