CEO MESSAGE
This August, during National Homelessness Week, we proudly celebrated the official launch and naming of our brand new Youth2Independence facility in Burnie. The service now carries a name gifted with care and meaning: Wurayni. The day was filled with connection and a shared sense of purpose, as individuals and organisations from across our community came together. United by our commitment to young people and their families, we celebrated not just a building, but the hope, opportunity and independence it represents. We extend our heartfelt thanks to former Housing Ministers Felix Ellis MP and Roger Jaensch MP, and to Homes Tasmania, for their trust, support and partnership in helping bring this vision to life.
|
We were thrilled to host a highly attended and successful Youth Expo in Devonport. The event drew between 350-400 young people, all eager to explore the wide range of services and supports available to them. The energy in the room was fantastic — with engaging conversations, new connections and a real sense of empowerment. A huge thank you to all those who collaborated to make the day such a success.
|
We are delighted to have recently extended two partnerships that will bring even greater support to our clients and community. Our collaboration with St Giles ensures YFCC clients have access to functional capacity assessments, opening the door to vital NDIS support. Meanwhile, our strengthened partnership with Wellways is helping to create improved mental health pathways for clients, while also providing cross-training opportunities for both Wellways and YFCC staff.
|
Finally, we are excited to welcome Lisa Browne as our new Family Support Team Leader. Lisa brings with her a wealth of leadership and practice experience, along with a deep passion for supporting families and communities. Her skills, insight and commitment will be invaluable as we continue to strengthen the services and support we provide.

The Inspiring Youth Awards 2025 are a great opportunity to recognise and celebrate the everyday actions and achievements of young North West Tasmanians. There are three categories, each of which are focused on creating an opportunity to let a young person know that they, and their contributions are valued and appreciated.

Homelessness Week raises awareness of people experiencing homelessness, the issues they face and the actions needed to achieve long-term solutions. Homelessness Week events are held across Australia each year in the first week of August. The national Homelessness Week theme for 2025 was ”Homelessness Act Now”.

Local Youth Expos were held in July and August this year. The first one was held in Burnie on 29th of July and the second one in Devonport on 1st August. Between both expos we had approximately 350 – 400 grade 9 students from Government & non-Government schools right across the coast.

We are currently conducting a research project in partnership with the University of Tasmania, investigating the experiences of Tasmanians who use alcohol and/or other drugs, when accessing health and non-health services, and the attitudes, beliefs and experiences of Tasmanian workers and volunteers in health and non-health services towards people experiencing harm from substance use.
