CEO MESSAGE

Recently Housing, Planning and Consumer Affairs Minister Felix Ellis, Homes Tasmania and YFCC officially opened YFCC’s new Youth2Independence facility on Mooreville Road, Burnie. This incredible new facility will provide accommodation for up to 25 young people. Under the program, 16-24 year olds are able to reside in the accommodation for up to two years, and will need to complete a Certificate I in Developing Independence with TasTAFE.

In late April, we marked a special moment – the official launch of The Canopy! It was an afternoon full of energy, colour, and connection, brought to life by the combined efforts of Burnie Works, the Primary Years Action Group, and YFCC. We set out to welcome new faces and share what makes The Canopy such a vibrant, community-driven space – and it absolutely delivered. From start to finish, there was the distinctive buzz of people coming together with purpose. We were also fortunate to be joined by guest speakers – Minister Roger Jaensch MP, Miriam Beswick MP and Professor Sharon Bessell – who each brought thoughtful insights and encouragement. We thank the amazing organisations who helped to make the day shine – running creative activities, serving up delicious food, and adding that extra something special.

In May we marked National Families Week 2025 with special events in Burnie and Devonport. Please read the full story below.

Again, in May we farewelled our long-time YFCC Team Leader and Family Support Practitioner, Lindsay Hodgkinson, as she embarks on an exciting new chapter. Lindsay has been an exceptional and deeply valued member of the YFCC team, making a profound impact on the Organisation, the Sector and countless families over the years. Her dedication, compassion, and leadership have left a lasting legacy. While we are sad to see her go, we are immensely grateful for all she has contributed and wish her every success and happiness in her next endeavour.

Thank you for taking the time to read the newsletter. If you would like to contribute to our next edition, please contact us at reception@yfcc.com.au.
