CEO MESSAGE
It has certainly been another interesting start to the year, best captured by this quote “January was a tough year but we made it!”. Here at YFCC we have been fortunate to be able to continue all services to date, albeit we continue to adapt regularly in accordance with the latest Public Health advice, and, where the information isn’t available or practical (for example, due to the lack of access to RATs), with approaches and strategies that we believe best keep our staff, clients and communities safe.
|
We were very excited to have completed our external evaluation of our Transitional Accommodation Support Services (TASS). TASS is unique in Tasmania in offering integrated accommodation, tenancy management, coaching and case management for young people and young parents between 13 and 20 who are experiencing homelessness or who are at risk of homelessness. The evaluation was extremely positive, identifying 6 factors critical to the success of TASS in delivering outcomes and quality:
|
- The skills and attitudes of TASS Workers
- The model of practice
- The service’s understanding of, and attitude to, the client group
- Integrated tenancy and case management
- YFCC’s management and leadership style
- YFCC’s reputation and approach to partnership
As one stakeholder stated:
|
'I refer the stickiest of the stickiest. The hardest to house and most likely to disengage and damage property, but the most needs in terms of a property. TASS goes over and above, the case management is unbelievable. They support young people to become independent in living…in all aspects - from maintaining the property, cooking healthy meals, budgeting. (Worker) will also try and link in with other services - employment, Centrelink, Medicare, housing, mental health, GPs, just everything, really very broad. Two of our joint clients were pregnant and then had a birth at TASS, and they linked them in with parent support services. Once they’ve transitioned from TASS there’s still a support period there, support in maintaining their property and their lifestyle.'
