CEO MESSAGE
During March I had the pleasure of presenting at the Alcohol, Tobacco and Drugs Council of Tasmania (ATDC) Lived Experience Forum. What an honour it was to speak alongside the Lived Experience Advocates. The focus of my presentation was my experience in creating and sustaining a seat for Lived Experience on the Board. This is something I am passionate about, and I am fortunate the YFCC Board have supported this since 2013. I am happy to share a few insights and practical tips to anyone seeking to establish this position on their Board.
I am excited to announce YFCC has been successful in gaining funding through the Safer Communities Fund Round 6 - Early Intervention. This funding will support a new project for the North West, Project Detour. This early intervention project will support young people, aged 16- 24, who are at risk of becoming entrenched in the criminal justice system, to become engaged in youth tailored training, education and employment, as well as providing coaching to improve psychosocial outcomes.
During March we held a very successful event for International Women’s Day and during April we held some fun and engaging events for young people for Youth Week. We are also delighted to have had new staff join our team during this period. Please read more about all these below.
I hope everyone had a safe and relaxing Easter period.

During the month of March, YFCC in conjunction with Devonport City Council celebrated International Women’s Day (IWD). This year’s theme for IWD was #Break the bias.

Our ARVOS activities are varied and this year have been including projects that give the participants a chance to do something for other people in the community. Our Burnie participants spent a couple of weeks on a project that saw them building two cubbyhouses and then decorating them in their own style.
