CEO MESSAGE
This newsletter I am excited to announce the commencement of “Community Voices”. This project, in partnership with WISE Employment, the Salvation Army and Creativity Australia, brings together young people and others at risk of long-term reliance on income support with volunteers in the community to form choir groups. As well as enjoying getting together to sing and perform, participants will also receive case management support to improve employment and social outcomes.
|
I am also very pleased that our Clinical Supervision and Service Improvement Officer (Julia Taylor) has started in her role. Julia has a PhD in Public Health, a Master of Health Science and a Bachelor of Nursing. She has worked for many years as a clinical nurse consultant and in research. She is a welcome addition to our team, overseeing and developing the Organisation’s clinical framework, therapeutic practices and clinical supervision.
|
It was wonderful to recently receive donations from Andrea Bonderson, Hall Advisory, Devonport SpecSavers, Girl Guides and MAS National. These all lead to being able to provide additional support for our clients and, as one of only very few not-for-profits that are truly local, all contributions support local communities. Our heartfelt gratitude to all.

‘I am really excited to take up the new role of Clinical Supervision and Service Improvement Officer at YFCC. I have a background in nursing, youth health, sexual health, primary care and academia. I work part time as a social researcher specialising in LGBTI (lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and intersex) mental health with La Trobe University and Bi+ Australia and the rest of my time will now be with YFCC. I have enjoyed meeting many of the staff here and am really looking forward to playing my part to support the important work of YFCC across the North West.’

YOUNG ACHIEVER AWARD FINALIST - BRITTANY CHATWIN (YOUTH ALCOHOL & DRUG COUNSELLOR)
On the Friday night of May 30th Brittany Chatwin from our Burnie office travelled to Hobart for the Tasmanian Young Achiever Awards. This was the result of her being nominated and selected as a finalist in the St Luke’s Healthier Communities Category. The Young Achiever Awards acknowledge, encourage and most importantly promote the positive achievements of all young people throughout Australia up to and including 29 years of age. The nomination was based on Brit’s work for YFCC as a Health Promotion Officer developing and delivering programs for high schools and colleges right across NW Tasmania. While she didn’t win the category her place as a finalist is a great acknowledgement of Brit’s hard work and passion – Congratulations Brittany!

One of the services offered by the Transitional Accommodation Support Services (TASS), is providing information to TASS clients on ways to manage money that includes working with the client on their financial awareness. This may include the following: identifying needs (shelter, clothing and food) and wants (shoes, latest phone and Batman figurines), ways to save, budgeting for a household and financial recording of expenses.

Every month, up to 36,500 Australian women and girls face the hardship, danger and emotional anxiety of being homeless, as well as the discomfort and lack of dignity that comes with having their period whilst struggling to afford menstrual hygiene products.
|
Share the Dignity has developed the revolutionary Dignity Vending Machine (also known as #Pinkbox) in the hope of making a difference to the lives of those who are experiencing homelessness or are at-risk or in need.
