CEO MESSAGE
It is hard to believe another year is coming to an end and a new decade is about to begin, and what a year it has been. We’ve had Royal Commissions, reviews, enquiries, new policy directions and many other changes and challenges, and yet there are still so many vulnerable people in our community facing poverty, inequality and exclusion. When I speak to many of my colleagues, the general consensus is a feeling of exhaustion, of being pulled from pillar to post. So my wish for all of us as we head into this festive season is that we find the space and strength to breathe, to look after our health and to go again. Our work is not done.
In this final newsletter for 2019 I wish to thank Burnie Girl Guides, Staff of Communities Tas., Share the Dignity, Ali Bourbon, SpecSavers and Reading Cinema for their kind generous donations to YFCC. Every donation directly supports our clients.
I also wish to thank our many clients who trust us to walk alongside them. Thank you also to our valued partners, funders and donors, who continue to support the work of YFCC. I would also like to thank our team of passionate and dedicated staff and our dynamic Board members. I look forward to working with you all again in 2020.
A happy and healthy Christmas and New Year to all.

YFCC has been successful in securing funding through the Tasmanian Community Fund to deliver a new YFCC program, Fit For Work, in the Devonport region.
The program will work with local Job Services agencies to identify young jobseekers (aged between 16 and 25 years) who need additional supports to enter the workforce.

Community Voices will see a staff change in the new year. Karina Cowling is moving on into another YFCC program and we will welcome Bianca Taylor to our project.
Karina and her counterpart at WISE Employment, Allana Bugge, have done a power of work in getting the project up and running and we wish Karina well in her new role. Don’t be too disappointed though because Karina will be a regular visitor to choir sessions in the New Year.

I have only been in the Burnie Health Promotions role a few weeks now but I am loving the diversity of the role and being able to work with young people in both group and individual settings.
The highlight so far however has been being part of a joint wildlife rescue on the way back from a talk at a Queenstown school, where we rescued an orphaned Wallaby.

I have just started as a Youth Worker in both Burnie and Devonport running the Arvo's programs at the junctions.
I am excited about working with young people, being involved in fun activities with them, and maintaining a safe space for them to hang out.
