CEO MESSAGE
Here we are already in October, with auditing, reporting and AGMs taking priority. YFCC held its AGM on the 23rd October. Keep an eye out for our Annual Report which you can see here (https://yfcc.com.au/resources/annual-reports/). As a sneak peak, I can tell you that 87% of our clients are already showing an improvement after intervention and 100% of our clients would recommend YFCC services to others. We provided services to 3,255 clients, with 24% of those identifying as being Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander. Reflecting on the journey with our Transitional Accommodation Support Service, one client stated “I was able to have temporary accommodation when I needed it. Transport to appointments was helpful when I didn’t have a car. I improved my mental health and started attending the gym and now I am employed”.
This month I am also very pleased to announce we have been successful with an application for funding to the Tasmanian Community Fund. The funding will support a new YFCC program, Fit For Work. Working with local Job Services Agencies, participants in this program will be intensively supported for 6 – 12 months to address health and wellbeing issues, build relationships and social connections and participate in soft employment skills training with the aim of rebuilding health, confidence and lost social capital, so they are more likely to break the cycle of welfare dependency.

I have been working in my role as Integrated Family Support Services Worker for about 6 weeks now and am working out of our Devonport Office.
I graduated from UTAS last year (2018) and absolutely love my job with YFCC! I have been fortunate in having previous careers prior to my current Social Work career.

I have been working at the Crisis Accommodation Service in both Devonport and Burnie for the last three months.
I moved to Australia 10 years ago and have been working within the sector since moving to Australia. My background prior to moving to the country, has been working with the Sector 8 housing program in America and playing professional women’s football (grid iron as Aussie’s call it).

With the support of a small grant from the Mental Health Council of Tasmania, YFCC once again was able to support Mental Health Week in 2019. The theme this year is ‘we all have a role to play’ which is a powerful yet simple reminder that supporting our mental wellness and those suffering from mental ill-health is the responsibility of the whole community.

One of the main services offered by YFCC is our Alcohol, Tobacco & Other Drugs (ATOD) service.
We offer ATOD counselling right across the North West and West Coasts as well as a regular service to King Island. Through therapeutic counselling and case management we are able to work with a broad range of community members to reduce or cease their substance use.

SECTOR & COMMUNITY NEWS
Around one in three women has an unplanned or unexpected pregnancy at some time in their life.
Unplanned pregnancy can leave some women feeling confused and scared, whereas others may feel happy and excited; all these feelings are normal.
